Reflex Neurovascular Dystrophy(RND) - an abnormal short circuit in the spinal cord causing a pain signal to travel through the neurovascular nerves resulting in constricted blood vessels. The decreased blood flow deprives the skin, muscles, and bones of oxygen which leads to a build-up of lactic acid. The decreased blood flow, lack of oxygen, and acid build-up causes extreme pain. RND often develops following an injury, surgery, or illness. It is commonly seen in conjunction with inflammatory illnesses such as arthritis.
